for the movie. It can be purchased through GENA for $10.00. Proceeds

Stephan Girard Park Committee
In the September Newsletter we referenced that we met with the leadership
of Fairmount Park to address the many concerns that we hear about the
Park and provided a vision and cost estimate of the work needed to upgrade
the park itself. On Friday, 10/15, we submitted a grant proposal in
response to an RFP (Request for Proposal) to the PA Horticultural Society.
Our request is in line with the RFP announcement for the grant opportunity.
The “Revitalization Project -Inspiring Transformation Re-grant
2010- 2011 is being funded by the William Penn Foundation and is intended
to make a significant difference in a neighborhood park’s physical
appearance and create excitement about sustainable Parks. The Pennsylvania
Horticultural Society is looking for 1 to 2 transformative projects
that will have a positive impact on a community park.
The grant proposal that we submitted is specific to removing dead trees,
pruning trees and plant new trees in the Park We have talked with leadership
at Fairmount Park, GEAR and the Friends of Girard Park. All of these
groups provided GENA with a letter of support for the grant. We have
also met with an Arborist from Fairmount Park to identify the trees
in the Park that need to be removed or pruned or where new plantings
can take hold. We will keep you updated on the outcome of the grant.
